ii) Outline and briefly explain the different types of copolymers. (6marks)

a) Write short notes on the following: (12 marks)

i) Elastomers

ii) Fibers

iii) Resins

iv) Thermosetting

v) Thermoplastics

vi) Plastics

b) Describe Cross-linked polymers(2½ marks)

c) Outline the 3 groups of polymers based on their stereochemistry.(3 marks)

a) Outline and discuss the established methods of producing polyethylene and give justification. (5½ marks)

b) List the 5 resources from Solid Minerals. (5 marks)

c) i) Discuss on the 2 main polymerization reactions. (4 marks)

ii) Outline the 3 stages that occur in addition chain growth polymerization. (3 marks)

a) Write short notes on the following: (12 marks)

i) Specialty chemicals

ii) Radical addition chain growth polymerization

iii) Cationic addition chain growth polymerization

iv) Anionic addition chain growth polymerization

b) Discuss on Condensation polymers. (5½ marks)

a) Discuss on the following properties of polymers: (10 marks)

IV. Melting point

b) Explain the following: (7⅟2 marks)

a) Recycling of polymers

b) Chlorine attack (acetal resin plumbing joints)

c) Biodegradations in polymers

a) Differentiate between natural and synthetic rubber. (4 marks)

b) Mention any 4 guidelines to be taken into cognizance in designing synthetic polymerization reactions to produce the desired products. (4 marks)

c) Explain the Ozone cracking in natural rubber tubing. (6 marks)

d) Discuss briefly on Cross-linking in polymers. (3½ marks)
