Effutu Chiefs apologise to Nana Addo over ‘Simpa Panyin’ comment

The chiefs and people of Winneba in the Central Region have rendered an unqualified apology to the flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo, for accusing him falsely of making derogatory remarks against people of the area.

At a press conference organised by the traditional leaders at Effutu on Thursday, November 24, the Tufuhene of Effutu, Neenyi Otuboa Siripi II, in a statement read on his behalf by the Adontenhene of Effutu, Neenyi Gyete Gyankuma II, called on Mr Akufo-Addo to apologise for using the term “Simpa Panyin”, allegedly against the people of the area.

However, “it has since come to the attention of Nananom that the alleged tape upon which we made our earlier demands is of dubious quality and cannot be verified”, the traditional body said, adding: “Upon further scrutiny, we have realised that Nana Akufo-Addo has never said anything derogatory about the people of Winneba”.

The chiefs and leaders admitted their error and also apologised to the NPP Member of Parliament (MP) for Effutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin for any political harm that their earlier public outburst might have caused the party.

Nana Otuboa on behalf of the chiefs strongly urged individuals and government officials to stop the conduct of feeding Nananom with false information aimed at gaining political advantage.

They appealed to Mr Akufo-Addo to find a place in his heart to forgive them for their offensive comments, which they “hereby retract in its entirety”. The traditional leaders further wished the three-time presidential candidate and the NPP the best of luck in the upcoming election and reiterated the confidence the people of Winneba have in him as a true patriot, a peace-loving and visionary leader who can bring change to the masses.
