Promotion In Tertiary Institutions Not Based On Length Of Service- Policy Expert

The Head of Policy and Planning at the National Council for Tertiary Education, NCTE, Dr. Emmanuel Newman has urged teachers at the Colleges of Education who have not done their master’s degree to take advantage of government’s Staff Development and Research Fund to upgrade and go for further studies in order to avoid been dismissed.

According to him, there is the need for all teachers at the Colleges of Education to go for further studies, which will not only earn them promotions in the profession but will also ensure that they avoid been sack.

Dr Newman gave this advice at the 9th Matriculation of Mampong Technical College of Education at Asante Mampong.

He emphasized also that promotions at the tertiary institutions are not based on the number of years one has been teaching but partly based on one’s contributions to the development of the disciplinary area.

According to him, teachers are expected to publish books to share their experience in the classroom and therefore advised teachers to vigorously embark on publications to enhance their promotions.
