Instructions: 1. Attempt question Number one (1) and any other two (2).

2. Question number 1 is compulsory and carries 30 marks, while the other

questions carry 20 marks each

3. Present all your points in coherent and orderly manner

1a) What will be your the required sample size if you wish to be 99 percent confident, with a

fairly small sampling error of 2.5 percent in estimating the true proportion. There are no

prior information about the true proportion, p, so that, for a conservative estimate,

p = 0.50 (15 marks)

b) Data collection is an activity requiring statistical inquiry. Use this statement to discuss

the stages of statistical inquiry (15 marks)

2a) Define research proposal to bring out its objectives (15 marks)

b) Discuss the structure of your research proposal to your project supervisor (15 marks)

3) What is a research design? Discuss fully if components (20 marks)

4a) The simplest methods of measuring relationships existing between economic variables

are correlation analysis and regression analysis. How do you understand the terms

Correlation and Rank Correlation Coefficient (10 marks)

5a) What characteristics distinguish a good research questionnaire from a poorly constructed

questionnaire (10 marks)

b) How do you understand the termunstructured questionnaire? Explain the rules guiding its

construction (10 marks)
