The Vice Chancellor of University of Ghana, Professor Ebenezer Oduro Owusu has been elected to the Board of the International Association of Universities (IAU) at the just ended IAU General Conference held in Bangkok, Thailand.
This year’s general conference which was co-organized in partnership with a Consortium of Thai universities lead by Siam University was held from 13-16 November 2016.
The 15th General Conference focused on the theme: Higher Education: a catalyst for innovative and sustainable societies.
Professor Ebenezer Oduro Owusu will serve a four-year term on the administrative board made up of twenty elected and two ex-officio members. These members include eighteen executive heads of member institutions and two heads of member organizations, the immediate past President and the Secretary General. A number of deputy members, from different regions and both categories of members are also elected.
The Administrative Board ensures that decisions of the General Conference are implemented, and guides the work of the International Universities Bureau.
IAU, founded in 1950, is the UNESCO-based worldwide association of higher education institutions. It brings together institutions and organizations from some 120 countries for reflection and action on common concerns and collaborates with various international, regional and national bodies active in higher education. Its services are available on the priority basis to Members but also to organizations, institutions and authorities concerned with higher education, as well as to individual policy and decision-makers, specialists, administrators, teachers, researchers and students.
Professor Ebenezer Oduro Owusu assumed office as the 12th Vice Chancellor of University of Ghana on 1st August, 2016. We wish the Vice Chancellor a successful tenure as a Member of the Board of IAU.
