MY THOUGHTFUL POEMS by Salau O John

The Dead poet

I lay my words in books
A thousand years to come
And I wonder how then it will look
For so many years had come and gone

For friends, unseen, unborn, and unknown
For students of sweet English tongue
Read out my words at night alone
I was a poet, I was young

Will Christ had come, gone, I know not
But this I lay for your unseen face
To say my world was fought, nothing bought
I send my soul through time and space

I give a lesson to brood my death
It was a hearty cry of standing unknown
So if you a poet did feel my belt
I pray you; open the light I’ve sown
I die not this death alone at home
But the time will come all things sow

My Unknown Child
I wish I had been carefree
For then would I have had you?
But then my plans will pine you
For the world is wild you see

I lay you a lesson to learn
If at all you came through somebody else
Understand many questions are unanswered bend
And know that your future you must plan

I could have been great in my talent
But procrastination, no plan bar me
The world would have been my vent
But the mouth and walk, astride I rent

So if you do come to see
I wailed in that I wished I’d done
But for a lesson I flay you this
Plan, work, be merry, and let none hold thee
For nothing is worth something without plan
And many merry erring in the land
