NYSC Moves To Deploy Biometric Clearance Method To South-East

The Director General of the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC), Brig-Gen Suleiman Kazaura on Wednesday announced that the scheme has introduced biometric clearance for corpers in the South-East.

Kazaure who disclosed this said it was to ensure accountability of members’activities using Information Communication Technology.

He further noted that this development was coming after a successful pilot testing in the FCT and Lagos in 2015, he also said a training workshop for NYSC inspectors from all the South-East state will be taking place with the aim of getting them acquainted with the processes and procedures involved in biometric clearance.

He also said it was meant to give participants the requisite knowledge in IT-based clearance and monitoring of corp members, as well as ensuring smooth take off from February 2017.

Earlier in the welcome address, the Director of ICT, Mrs. Christy Uba, said the NYSC Online Integrated System, whose journey started in 2004, had positively impacted on service delivery in the scheme.

The Director said the digital migration had been enhancing and simplifying various operations such as the mobilization process, deployment, monitoring, printing of Certificates of National Service and production of identity cards amongst others.

“It has reduced to the barest minimum several problems hitherto experienced by Prospective Corps Members, Corps members, staff, Students’ Affairs Officers and other stakeholders,” she said.

NYSC Director added that the biometric would be used in the clearance of corps members for weekly Community Development Service and monthly clearance, adding that those without the approval would not be considered for payment of the monthly allowance.
